Back
to its A-Game
Italian soccer should be reaping rich
rewards form their unexpected, but lorious success at last
year's World Cup.
Serie
A, however, finds itself engaged in a fierce battle to rid
itself of the scars left by a match- fixing scandal that shook
the foundations of world soccer. The once mighty Lady of Turin
– Juventus – fell, relegated to Serie B and stripped of two
league championships that were deemed to have been won corruptly.
In that time of woe, the likes of AC Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina
were also found guilty of improper conduct in the scandal
and were penalised with points deductions but escaped the
fate that befell the Lady.
Now,
with Juve back in the top flight after winning the second
league Serie B, and this in spite of a points deduction of
their own, Serie A is expected to return to some semblance
of normality and, in some ways, this has been the case as
the season enters its second quarter. The “big guns” appear
on track to dominate the league as so many expected them to
do.
